SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- UC Davis senior Adam Young finished 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend his reached base safely streak to 15 consecutive games, but host and No. 5-ranked Cal Poly used a 13-hit attack to power its way past the Aggies, 9-1, and sweep the Big West Conference opening series at Baggett Stadium.

Entering the weekend having won eight of 10, UC Davis lost its third straight in falling to 12-12 overall and 0-3 in league play. The Mustangs improved to 23-4 overall and opened conference play 3-0 with the sweep.

Young logged his 11th multi-hit game of the season to match teammate Kevin Barker for the team lead, accounting for half of the Aggies' four hits in Sunday's series finale. His RBI single in the sixth scored teammate Seth Batty to break up Cal Poly's shutout bid after Batty reached on an error to lead-off the frame.

Young finished with hits in all three games of the series and now has a four-game hitting streak dating back to UC Davis' walk-off win over Nevada on March 25.

Barker and junior Nick Lynch accounted for the Aggies' other two hits -- each with infield singles in the second and fourth innings, respectively -- but it wasn't enough to overcome the Mustangs, who scored two runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to an early advantage before adding on more in the sixth and eighth frames en route to the win.

Cal Poly freshman Casey Bloomquist improved to 6-0 overall on the season, allowing the unearned run on four hits, walking one, and striking out six, over eight innings of work. Bryan Granger and Reed Reilly combined to get the final three outs.

Mark Mathias finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs, while Peter Van Gansen added three more hits, to lead the Mustangs, who had four starters finish with multiple hits on the day.

Senior Evan Wolf (2-2) -- the first of five pitchers on the day for the Aggies -- suffered the loss, allowing three earned on four hits while walking three over just 1.1 innings.

The road doesn't get any easier for UC Davis, which hosts Saint Mary's in a mid-week contest on Tuesday (April 4) at 2:30 p.m. at Dobbins Stadium, before heading to Southern California to take on No. 9-ranked and four-time defending Big West Conference champion Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series at Goodwin Field.

The series with the Titans opens on Friday (April 4) at 7 p.m., with games following on Saturday (April 5) at 6 p.m., and Sunday (April 6) at 1 p.m.
