Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - By winning the first two doubles and three of the first four singles matchups completed, UC Davis opened its six-match, five-week homestand with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State Wednesday afternoon at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

With the victory, the team's fourth in its last five matches, UC Davis improves to 7-6. Youngstown State ends its road trip through Northern California with a 5-8 mark.

By breezing past the Penguins' No. 3 doubles duo of Nehel Sahni and Dominika Lackova by an 8-2 margin, Samantha Martino and Tiffany Pham had the best seats in the facility to watch Megan Heneghan and Melissa Kobayakawa, who were competing as the Aggies' No. 2 on an adjacent court, down Carolyn Jesko and Annina Brender, 8-5.

The doubles victory was Heneghan and Kobayakawa's seventh in a row; combined with Pham/Martino's score, UC Davis entered the singles round with a 1-0 advantage.

Heneghan completed her sweep of the day's action with her 6-1, 6-4 straight set victory to double her team's lead. Shortly thereafter, Kamila Kecki recorded a straight-set win of her own by defeating Jesko 6-2, 6-3 to push the Aggies one step closer of winning the day's dual.

Heneghan topped Margarita Sadovnikova, the Penguins' No. 1 singles player, Kecki earned her win at No. 6.

Even though Youngstown State was able to record its first point of the day when the next singles match concluded, UC Davis officially recorded a match victory when Kobayakawa's match went final-a contest that ended in the senior's favor by a 6-0, 6-4 result.

Due to finals, UC Davis will not return to action for two weeks and will continue its homestand on March 26 against Eastern Washington.
