TACOMA, Wash. - Spencer Koopmans pitched six strong innings and Steven Patterson had three hits in the first game and hit a home run in the second, but the UC Davis baseball team fell twice to host Washington on Saturday at Cheney Stadium.

The Huskies scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a close 2-1 win in the opener before taking a 4-0 lead on their way to an 8-3 win in the seven-inning nightcap. UC Davis is 4-7 while Washington improved to 6-4-1.

Koopmans had a solid outing in Saturday's first game, allowing just four hits and one run in his six innings of work. He struck out four and walked four while inducing nine groundouts. He allowed a first-inning double with two outs but got a strikeout to end the threat, and then got out of a jam with one out and runners at the corners in the third when he threw out Erik Forgione at the plate and struck out Robert Pehl.

Brian Wolfe's homer to right with one out in the fourth was the only scoring Washington could muster against Koopmans. Wolfe's home run tied the game after UC Davis picked up a run in the third on Patterson's RBI single to left with two out.

The teams remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when pinch-hitter Kyle London drew a leadoff walk against reliever Orlando Razo. London moved to second on a sacrifice bunt against pitcher Zach Stone and then scored the winning run on a dropped flyball in the outfield.

Patterson had three hits in the opener, including his second double of the season. UC Davis out-hit the Huskies, 7-4.

Washington jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the second game on a RBI-triple by Ryan Wiggins followed by a run-scoring single by catcher Austin Rei. Forgione knocked in two more runs in the fourth inning with his two-out single to center staked the Huskies to a 4-0 advantage.

Adam Young had three hits in the nightcap, including a RBI-single to center that scored Kevin Barker in the fifth inning and brought the Aggies to within 4-1. However, Washington tacked on three more runs in the fifth, opening a 7-1 lead. Patterson's first homer of the year led off the sixth inning while Young scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to cap UC Davis' scoring.

Aggie Starter Evan Wolf fell to 0-1 after surrendering six runs and five hits in four innings. He also walked five and did not have a strikeout. Tyler Davis (2-1) earned the win for the Huskies. Barker added two hits for UC Davis.

Right-hander Max Cordy (1-0, 4.82) is scheduled to start the series finale for UC Davis which has dropped the first three games. The Huskies have not announced a starter for the 1 p.m. game.
