DAVIS, Calif. - Air Force and Northern Colorado are the only two things that stand between UC Davis and matching best start in program history as the Aggies will begin a season-long four-game road swing this weekend in Colorado.
During the 1997-98 season, that team opened the year with a 9-1 mark in its first 10 games and ended its campaign with a Division II national title.
After the holiday break, men's hoops will travel to Washington State and Seattle before returning to the Pavilion for its second season-long three-game homestand.
Saturday's matchup against the Falcons is the third head-to-head meeting; Air Force won the inaugural matchup, 69-57, on Dec. 22, 2009, before the Aggies evened the series last year on Dec. 21 with their 80-74 victory inside the Pavilion.
UC Davis is the fourth of five consecutive opponents that will visit Clune Arena as Air Force is in the midst of a season-long five game homestand. The Falcons defeated Grambling, Nebraska-Omaha, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and will close its homestand on Monday against Jacksonville State - its final game before the start of Mountain West action.
Series Record: Tied at 1-1
Last UC Davis Win: 80-74; 12/21/13 in Davis, Calif.
Last Air Force Win: 69-57; 12/22/09 at the USAFA
Series Streak: UC Davis +1
The last time UC Davis and Northern Colorado met (2/23/13), Paolo Mancasola drilled the game-winning basket with 1.8 seconds remaining to lift UC Davis to a 79-78 victory in a Ramada Worldwide Bracketbuster matchup. Nearly two years later, the Aggies seek their fourth straight victory against the Bears in their Bracketbusters return game in Greeley, Colo.
After a 20-day hiatus, Northern Colorado will return home for a brief two-game block of home games that starts on Saturday against Jacksonville State, and concludes two days later against the Aggies.
Entering this week's action, the Bears sport a 4-4 record and have posted consistent results since the start of the season. In its four home games against Black Hills State, Colorado Christian, Stetson and Florida A&M, Northern Colorado is undefeated. However, the team has dropped all four of its road games at Wyoming, New Mexico State, Colorado State, Colorado and will face Nebraska-Omaha on its home floor Wednesday evening before returning to campus.
Series Record: UC Davis leads 4-1
Last UC Davis Win: 79-78; 2/23/13 in Davis, Calif.
Last Northern Colorado Win: 111-77; 12/6/66 in Greeley, Colo.
Series Streak: UC Davis +4

LET'S PLAY TWO!
This catchphrase applies to UC Davis basketball this season as the men and women will team up for three home doubleheaders this year.
When the men hosted Utah State (11/26) and Utah Valley (11/29), women's basketball faced Utah Valley and Pacific in respective matinée matchups. On both occasions, the Aggies recorded a doubleheader sweep.
The final doubleheader will take place on Jan. 3, 2015, when the women host Menlo College at 2 p.m. before the men tip that evening against Cal Maritime.
CLIMBING THE MID-MAJOR LADDER
On Nov. 24, UC Davis made its inaugural Division I appearance on CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 poll when the Aggies received one vote. For the fourth consecutive week, UC Davis received votes; only five teams separate the Aggies from a spot on the outlet's rankings
THIS TOOK PLACE BEFORE TWO WORLD WARS, THE FIRST TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT AND THE INVENTION OF TELEVISION
With its win against San José State on Dec. 3, UC Davis sported its first 6-0 start in 102 years and the first time as a NCAA-recognized athletics program.
During the 1912-13 season, the last time the Aggies enjoyed this successful a start to their season, the school was known a University Farm and competed against local high school and club teams.
TOUGH TO TOP
By winning its first six games, UC Davis posted its strongest start in 102 seasons. However, that win streak fell short of the Big West record 34-game winning stream set by UNLV during the 1990-91 season. That year, the Runnin' Rebels won every contest but one - the national championship game against Duke.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE
For the first time since the 1912-13 season, UC Davis starts its season with a 7-1 record.
The best 10-game start by an Aggie men's basketball team took place during the 1930-31, '65-'66 and '66-'67 seasons when 8-2 records were posted by each squad.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN
Fueling much of the Aggie success is its efficiency from distance. UC Davis ranks first in the Big West and No. 22 nationally in three-point field goal percentage at .410 pct. (66-of-161). The Aggies have hit no fewer than seven threes in all seven of their victories. Coincidentally, they've made exactly seven on five separate occasions.
YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
With its home victory against Eastern Illinois on Dec. 9, UC Davis earned its inaugural home-and-home single-season sweep as a Division I team. The Aggies captured their first victory over the Panthers on Nov. 20 when men's hoops traveled to Charleston, Ill. This unique situation marks the first time in the program's D- I history that the Aggies and an opponent faced one another on their respective courts in the same season.
Even though UC Davis faced Southern Utah two times during the 2011-12 season - the first encounter took place on a neutral setting when the Aggies squared off against the Thunderbirds on Nov. 11 at the Basketball Travelers Classic in San Diego. The following month, UC Davis traveled to Cedar City, Utah, to face SUU once again.
