SAMMAMISH, Calif. - Two birdies helped senior
Blair Lewis shoot an even round of 72 on Tuesday afternoon tying her for fifth place as the No. 26 UC Davis women's golf team finished the first day of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club tied for sixth.
Tuesday was scheduled to include 36 holes of action but intense fog repeatedly delayed most teams starting and resulted in tournament officials canceling the first round and shortening the two-day tournament to just two rounds.
The Aggies fired a 13-over 301 team score and are tied with Colorado State for sixth place, just one shot behind fifth-place Columbia and two back of San Jose State in fourth. Host Washington is nine shots clear of the field after opening with a 3-under 285. Gonzaga (294) and Stanford (296) round out the top three.
Starting her round on the 10th hole, Lewis was even before going bogey-birdie-bogey on the 14th through 16th holes to move to 1 over. She got that stroke back, however, with a birdie on the par-5, 440-yard second hole and then finished the day with seven consecutive pars.
Lee's 74 got a good start with a birdie on the par-4 13th to put her 1 under early. She had three bogeys and 14 pars the rest of the way. Chen's 74 featured hills and valleys with eight pars balanced by four birdies and four bogeys. She had two birdies on each side of the course.
Zeng, who's making her Aggie debut, highlighted her day with a birdie on the par-4, 357-yard fourth hole while also posting a trio of consecutive pars twice during the round. Wong was 5 over on each her front and back nines and was just 2 over on her last seven holes.
Washington's SooBin Kim fired a 3-under 69 and leads three players, including teammates Jennifer Yang and Eimi Koga, but two shots.
Wednesday's final round begins at 8 a.m. UC Davis will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. and will play with Columbia and San Jose State.
