DAVIS, Calif. - Five different Aggies had hits on Tuesday against visiting Sacramento State, but the Hornets scored nine runs over the first three innings en route to a 14-0 win over UC Davis in a nonconference baseball game at Dobbins Stadium.
The loss moved the Aggies' record to 6-7 while Sacramento State improved to 7-5. Third baseman Will Soto, shortstop Scott Burcham and second baseman Andrew Ayers each had three hits for the Hornets who also got a home run from right-fielder Nathan Lukes.
Sacramento State scored a single run in the first, two more in the second and six in the third to take an early 9-0 lead. The Hornets had 12 hits over the first three frames, including four doubles, chasing Aggie starter Alex Sachs who was relieved with no outs in the top of the third.
The Aggies held Sacramento State scorelesa over the next five innings before Lukes' two-run homer to right highlighted a big ninth inning for the Hornets.
Sacramento State starter Hunter Greenwood allowed just one hit, didn't walk a batter and had strikeout over five innings to earn his first win of the season. Sachs allowed nine hits and seven runs, falling to 0-1.
Outfielder Seth Batty, outfielder John Williams, pinch-hitter Spencer Henderson, center-fielder Kevin Barker and catcher Spencer Brann each had singles for UC Davis. Zach Williams came in and pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
The Hornets had 20 hits on Tuesday, eight of them for extra bases.
UC Davis will return to action on Friday when it hosts Cal State University, Bakersfield in the first of a three-game series.
