SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly starting pitcher Matt Imhof allowed just one run in a complete game and the UC Davis baseball team lost, 7-1, to the No. 21 ranked Mustangs in a Big West Conference game on Friday night at Baggett Stadium.
The Aggies (10-14, 0-2 Big West) scored one run on seven hits with no errors while the Mustangs (19-6, 2-0) posted seven runs on 14 hits with no errors.
Imhof (3-0), who entered the game with a 1.41 ERA, the second best mark in the Big West among starting pitchers, lowered that number after allowing just one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks in nine innings. UC Davis starter Spencer Koopmans (0-3) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on 11 hits with one strikeout and no walks in 6.2 innings. The Aggies' bullpen did not allow a run for the third straight game but Cal Poly had already built a big lead.
The Mustangs scored first with two runs in the third and added additional runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
The Aggies' lone run came in the sixth. Left fielder Seth Batty led off with one of his two doubles and moved to third on a ground out. Batty scored when second baseman Steven Patterson lifted a sacrifice fly to center.
Batty finished 3-for-4 at the dish to lead the Aggies while three Mustangs each had three hits. UC Davis pitcher Robert Parucha allowed three hits in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts.
UC Davis and Cal Poly will meet on Saturday afternoon for the final game of the series. Junior right-hander Evan Wolf will start for the Aggies and look to prevent a sweep.
