DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis scored six runs over the three middle innings on Sunday, including getting RBI doubles from John Williams and Nick Lynch in the sixth, as the Aggies clinched a weekend series against Washington with a 7-5 nonconference baseball win at Dobbins Stadium.

The Aggies improved to 3-1 with the victory while the Huskies dropped to 1-3. Lynch finished with three hits and two RBI's for UC Davis while Trevor Mitsui went 3 for 3 for Washington. UC Davis collected 13 hits in the game overall.

"One of our things this year is 'together and unselfish'", said Aggie coach Matt Vaughn. "For the most part we did a very good job of that (this weekend). To get three wins on top of that against a very good Pac-12 team, you can't start much better than that."

The Aggies and Huskies matched scoring over the first four innings as each tallied single runs in the first and fourth. Duncan Hendrickson, however, sparked a two-run fifth for Washington, coming in as a pinch-hitter and doubling down the left-field line to score Robert Rei. A groundout with one out plated another for a 4-2 Husky lead.

UC Davis, though, scored three runs in its half of the frame, picking up RBI singles from second baseman Steven Patterson and catcher Spencer Brann. Brann's hit, however, was misplayed in right, allowing Lynch to score and putting the Aggies in front for good, 5-4.

UC Davis tacked on two more runs in the sixth after designated hitter Tino Lipson picked up a leadoff walk. Williams doubled to right, bringing around Lipson for the first run while Lynch had a long double with two outs, scoring Williams.

Washington added a run in the seventh but left two runners on base when reliever Patrick Hennessey forced a two-out groundout. The Huskies threatened again in the eighth inning, loading the bases with just one out. However, pitcher Zach Williams struck out catcher Austin Rei and Ty Afenir bounced out to first.

Spencer Henderson, who relieved starter Evan Wolf in the fourth, went three innings, allowing four hits and two runs, and earned the win. Max Cordy set Washington down in order in the ninth inning, recording his first save. Washington starter Zach Wright took the loss after allowing eight hits, five runs and three walks.

The top third of the Aggie order was productive on Sunday, combining to go 5 for 11 with three runs and a pair of RBI's. Lipson and Williams had two hits each to highlight that group. Lynch finished 3 for 5 while Kevin Barker and Brann each had two hits as well.

Vaughn said UC Davis has put an emphasis this season to try and take advantage of situations with runners in scoring position after struggling in that area last year.

"Overall, on the weekend, we got some of those big hits and I think that makes the difference in a series like this," he said.

UC Davis continues an eight-game homestand to start the 2013 season, hosting San Jose State on Wednesday 2 p.m. in a nonconference matchup.
