RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Tom Briner struck out five batters in six innings of work, but UC Riverside claimed an 8-0 win, and the series, over the UC Davis baseball team on Sunday at the Riverside Sports Complex.

UC Davis drops to 14-21 overall and 3-6 in the Big West while UC Riverside now stands at 14-19 and 4-5.

In six innings on the mound, Briner struck out five batters but gave up five runs on 10 hits for the loss. He drops to 2-5.

UC Riverside's Trevor Frank threw a complete game, limiting the Aggie offense to just three hits while striking out four. He picked up his first win of the year to move to 1-5.

Nick Lynch, Paul Politi and Evan Heptig were the lone Aggies to record hits.

UC Riverside took a 1-0 lead in the third, then took a 3-0 lead with another run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Highlanders tacked on two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh for the 8-0 final score.

Frank meanwhile retired the side in the first, then retired ten straight Aggie batters until the sixth inning when Heptig singled into right field. He sent another ten straight Aggies back to the dugout until Politi singled into left field in the bottom of the ninth, but Lynch hit a fly ball to center field for the final out of the game.

UC Davis returns to action on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest at the University of San Francisco.
