DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team collected its fourth win in the last five matches, cruising to a 6-1 win over San Jose State on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
With just one week left in the regular season the Aggies are looking to peak at the right time. A second win on the weekend helped UC Davis improve to 9-11 on the season while the Spartans fell to 13-5.
San Jose State started doubles play with a win at the No. 1 spot but the Aggies bounced back with two 8-5 victories. Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly teamed up for a win in the No. 2 position while Megan Heneghan and Ellie Edles secured the doubles point with a victory in the No. 3 spot.
Megan Heneghan made quick work of Sabastiani Leon Chao in the No. 1 position, surrendering just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Kelly Chui also had a perfect first set en route to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Erica Medlin in the No. 3 spot. Layla Sanders posted the clinching victory in the No. 5 position, defeating Isadora Busch, 6-3, 6-1. Nicole Koehly added a 6-1, 7-6 (6) victory in the No. 6 position while Zamudio had a three set victory at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3).
UC Davis will get back into Big West competition next week, facing Pacific on Thursday, Apr. 19 at 2 p.m.
