DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 64 UC Davis women's tennis team lost its first match of the season to a non-ranked opponent, falling at home to Fresno State 5-2 on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

It was also the first loss at home for the Aggies, who fell to 2-5 on the season while the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the year and improved to 1-3.

Fresno State started by taking the doubles point with wins in the bottom two positions. Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui had the only doubles victory for UC Davis in the No. 1 spot, downing Marianne Jodoin and Tanya Murtah, 9-7.

After dropping the first two singles matches in the No. 6 and 3 spots, Lauren Curry posted a singles win in the No. 4 position, defeating Melissa McQueen, 6-3, 6-2. Heneghan added a win in the No. 2 spot to keep the Aggies alive, downing Olga Kirpicheva, 7-5, 6-2. Tanya Murtagh had the deciding victory for Fresno State while Dahra Zamudio had another close defeat against a ranked player, falling to No. 49 Marianne Jodoin, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

UC Davis will be back on the road next weekend, starting with a match at UC Santa Barbara Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m.
