KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UC Davis women's tennis team continued its play at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, facing No. 33 North Carolina State in a consolation match and falling 4-0 on Saturday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Aggies had won the opening set of all three singles matches that were unfinished but the Wolfpack managed to close out wins in the No. 1, 2 and 6 spots to earn the victory. UC Davis dropped to 1-3 on the young season while N.C. State improved to 3-1.
The Wolfpack swept the doubles matches to earn the first point, starting with an 8-3 win for Sophie Nelson and Christy Sipes over Lauren Curry and Ellie Edles in the No. 3 position. Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui took four games off of Ashley Miller and Joelle Kissel in the No. 1 spot, before falling 8-4.
N.C. State started the singles competition with a win in the No. 6 position, as Nicole Martinez managed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ellie Edles. Facing another ranked player in the No. 1 spot, Dahra Zamudio dropped a 6-2, 6-1 contest to No. 40 Joelle Kissell. Tatiana Illova provided the clinching victory for the Wolfpack, taking a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Heneghan. Chui,

UC Davis will continue to be tested against some of the top teams in the nation, traveling to play Stanford next on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
