VAIL, Colo. - Three UC Davis players are in the top 20 after two rounds of the Golfweek Conference Challenge but the Aggies slipped to fifth place in windy conditions on Tuesday at Red Sky Golf Club.

UC Davis led Oregon and Coastal Carolina by three strokes after Monday's first round but shot a 25-over 313 in the second. The Aggies are still within striking distance however, just six shots behind leader Oregon and one back of Mississippi, Denver and Pepperdine which are tied for second.

UC Davis junior Demi Runas and freshman Beverly Vatananugulkit are each tied for 14th after 5-over 77's on Tuesday while junior Amy Simanton is tied for 19th after finishing with a 78. Sophomore Jessica Chulya had an 81 and is tied for 39th while freshman Blair Lewis is tied for 70th after carding an 83.

UC Davis was just 6-over on Monday after posting a 294 team score. However, windy conditions and difficult pin placements made for difficult play for the tournament's 18 teams, each school representing a different conference. Oregon's 16-over 304 was the best score of the day.

Runas was even after nine holes on Tuesday, posting a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole but was 5 over on the back. She's 6 over for the tournament. Vatananugulkit was just a shot over par after 12 holes but had two double-bogeys and two bogeys that were partially countered with two birdies the rest of the way to also finish with a 77 and stay tied with Runas in the standings.

Simanton scrambled to a 1-over 37 over her first nine holes and was 5 over on the back to come in with a 78. Chulya rebounded from six bogeys on the front nine to play the back just 3 over. She had just five pars in the second round but did card a pair of birdies. Lewis had four straight pars from the 11th through 14th holes to help highlight her day.

Natalie Gleadall of Mississippi and Grace Na of Pepperdine remained in first place, each shooting 74. They are 1-under 143 through 36 holes.

The teams will play the final round on Wednesday beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (Pacific).
