HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Amy Simanton fired three birdies en route to a 2-under 70 on Tuesday as the No. 17 UC Davis women's golf team rallied to finish in a third-place tie at the inaugural Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

The Aggies entered the day in sixth place but also picked up rounds of 74 from Demi Runas, and 75 from both Chelsea Stelzmiller and Alice Kim to shoot 294 during the final round.

UC Davis finished at 41-over 905 for the 54-hole event, tying for third with Long Beach State. The Aggies co-hosted the tournament with 37th-ranked Oregon which posted a one-shot win over No. 27 Texas A&M to claim the team title. The Ducks had a 27-over 891 total.

Texas A&M, however, had the tournament's medalist in Katerina Ruzickova who shot a 69 to win by two shots over Ashley Edwards of Oregon and Noelle Zavaleta of Long Beach State.

Simanton's 70 was UC Davis' low round of the tournament and tied her for 18th in the player standings at 10-over 226. Chulya and Stelzmiller tied for 19th at 11 over, while Runas and Kim tied for 31st at 14-over.

Simanton had a very steady round, posting two birdies over a three-hole span to go to 2 under after just five holes. A bogey, birdie preceded eight consecutive pars to finish the round, bringing her in with an impressive 70.

Runas had her best round of the tournament as well, opening her day 4 over after six holes but went 2 under the rest of the way. Stelzmiller and Kim each had two birdies, including a pair by Kim over the final five holes, each of them shooting 75.

Jessica Chulya highlighted her round of 77 with an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. Senior Katie Sisler, playing as an individual, tied for 45th at 18-over 234 after shooting 76 in the final round. She had an early birdie and five straight pars.

Four of the six UC Davis players that competed in the tournament had their best rounds on Tuesday.

The tournament was the final competition for UC Davis which will try to defend the Big West title it won last year when the Aggies compete in the conference tournament beginning Apr. 18 in Rancho Santa Margarita.
