Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 66 UC Davis women's tennis team won in straight sets in all but one singles match en route to a 7-0 sweep of the UC San Diego Tritons on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
After taking two out of three doubles matches, the Aggies made quick work of the Tritons, winning all six singles matches. UC Davis improved to 14-4 with the win, while UC San Diego had a four-match win streak snapped and dropped to 8-6 on the season.
Despite a win at No. 1 doubles for the Tritons, the Aggies earned the doubles point after Nicole Koehly and Sidney Brady defeated Dao/Davis, 8-6 and a Lauren Curry and Dahra Zamudio defeated Mully/Pourmirzau, 8-1.
UC Davis overpowered UC San Diego in singles competition, starting at No. 1 singles where Megan Heneghan downed Taskeen Bains, 6-1, 6-0. Koehly followed with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Samantha Yeung at No. 4 singles. Melissa Kobayakawa earned the clinching win for the Aggies, posting a win at the No. 6 position with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Jacquelyn Davis. Curry, Kelly Chui and Zamudio also took singles wins in their respective matches.
UC Davis will be back in action next week, playing two Big West matches at home, starting with UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 11 a.m.
