Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 56 UC Davis women's tennis team dropped its second match of the weekend, falling 5-2 to Santa Clara on Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
Saturday's loss marks just the second losing streak of the season for the Aggies and the first loss to an unranked opponent. With the win, the Broncos improved to 15-4, while UC Davis dropped to 16-6 on the season.
The Aggies started the day by winning the doubles point, taking two out of three matches. Santa Clara had the first win at No. 2 doubles before Meghan Henegan and Kelly Chui defeated Katie Le and Jessica Arga, 8-5 in the No. 1 position. UC Davis secured the doubles point after Lauren Curry and Dahra Zamudio posted an 8-6 win over Alex Zaniewski and Kacie Wagner.
The Broncos bounced back in singles competition, taking five out of six matches to earn the win. Curry had the only singles win for the Aggies, defeating Maggie McGeorge at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Heneghan dropped a three-set match for the second time in as many days, falling to Katie Le at No. 1 singles, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 4-3 (7-5). Santa Clara won three matches in straight sets, including the clinching victory at No. 2 singles.
UC Davis will play the regular season finale next weekend, playing host to Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, Apr. 22 in a 2 p.m. match.
