DAVIS, Calif. - Tickets for the fourth installment of "Aggie Idol," the UC Davis student-athlete charity variety show, are now on sale through various venues, the Student-Athlete Academic Services office announced Thursday. The show will take place on Tuesday, May 10 at Freeborn Hall. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the event will support Team Davis, a local nonprofit established to help enrich the lives of children and adults with developmental, cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The three previous Aggie Idol events raised more than $3,800 for Heifer International (2007), Special Olympics Northern California (2008) and Invisible Children (2009).
Tickets, priced at $8 in advance or $10 on the day of the event, are available through the following means:
1. The UC Davis Ticket Office window at Freeborn Hall, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Note: because of a fee charged to the department for credit card purchases, fans are encouraged to pay with cash to maximize the donation to Team Davis.
2. The UC Davis Ticket Office by phone at (530) 752-1915.
3. Online at www.tickets.com. Enter "Aggie Idol" in the search field.
Additional handling charges will apply to online and phone orders.
Aggie Idol is organized and presented by the UC Davis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the officers for which comprise swimmer Julie Peri, distance runner Jonathan Peterson, pole vaulter Lauren Radke and lacrosse player Laura Sunday. The inaugural event took place at Hickey Gym until the 2008 SAAC officers opted to begin holding Aggie Idol at the more performance-friendly Freeborn Hall.
In 2009, the Aggie track and field teams won the Group Performance category for a third straight year, entering a dance routine entitled "Love Story." The Individual or Duo winner was football player Joseph Gray, who performed a self-composed jazz piano piece called "Relaxation."
