Aggie Auction To Debut Online Format

March 26, 2011

DAVIS, Calif. - The Aggie Auction, which provides financial program support to UC Davis' 23 varsity sports and 650 student-athletes, will move to an exclusive online format in 2011 in order to reach more Aggie fans worldwide, it was announced by UC Davis Athletics.

Since its inception in 1997, the Aggie Auction has been held at several local venues, most recently at The Pavilion on the UC Davis campus. It's annually attracted more than 1,000 people with a coordinated effort of staff, coaches and student-athletes. The recent success of the Internet post-auction sales following the actual in-person event has prompted the format change for 2011.

"Many fundraising events nationwide are being re-evaluated to ensure maximum benefits for the investment of staff time and resources, " said Director of Athletics Greg Warzecka. "We're refocusing the auction to expand the regional outreach of Aggie Athletics and look forward to new ways to engage our alumni and friends."

UC Davis has more than 180,000 alumni worldwide who, in addition to all Aggie fans and members of the general public, will have the opportunity to participate in this year's auction to support the intercollegiate athletics program. The Aggie Auction will feature many of the popular items available in past years, including travel packages, golf outings and sports memorabilia. It will be held later this spring and will be announced on the program's official athletics website, www.ucdavisaggies.com.
