SAN JOSE, Calif. - Demi Runas fired a 2-under 70 during Tuesday's final round, Chelsea Stelzmiller carded a 71 and the No. 22 UC Davis women's golf team posted the day's best team score with a 3-over 291, as the Aggies rallied to finish second at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, hosted by San Jose State.

Led by Alice Kim who finished sixth, and Runas who tied for eighth, UC Davis had four players among the top 16 places, a group that also included Amy Simanton and Chelsea Stelzmiller who tied for 12th and 16th, respectively.

UC Davis began the day in fourth but picked up strong rounds by Runas and Stelzmiller, a 74 from Simanton and a 76 by Kim to tie Cal for the best round of the tournament. The ninth-ranked Bears won the tournament with a 17-over total of 881 while the Aggies were second at 35-over 899.

UC Davis jumped over No. 31 Oregon and No. 24 Oregon on the final day. The Ducks took third at 40-over 904 while the Buffaloes were three strokes back in fourth. Washington, ranked 30th, rounded out the top five of the 12-team tournament at 49-over 913.

Runas had two early birdies in her round but gave them back with consecutive bogeys later. Two birdies over her final six holes, including one on her final hole helped her post the Aggies' best round of the two-day tournament. She finished at 8-over 224.

Stelzmiller was also impressive, carding three birdies over a four-hole span early in her final round, combining those with 12 pars to help her finish under par with a 71. She tied for 16th at 12-over.

Thanks to three early birdies, Simanton was two shots in the red after eight holes, later moved to even and then had four pars and two bogeys to help her come in with a 74, her lowest round of the tournament. Simanton was 11-over overall for the event.

Kim was third after two rounds, eventually placing sixth in the 65-player field at 5-over 221 after shooting a 76 on Tuesday. She had two birdies in her round and finished with four consecutive pars. Kim finished at 5-over 221.

Freshman Jessica Chulya tied for 42nd after shooting 80 on Tuesday while sophomore Belen Hernandez, playing as an individual, tied for 33rd at 18-over. Hernandez had a round of 75, mixing five birdies and six pars with six bogeys and a double-bogey to post the best overall finish of those players competing as individuals.

Emily Childs ended the 54-hole event with par 216 to beat teammate Joanne Lee by a shot and earn medalist honors while helping Cal post a 1-2 finish

UC Davis will return to action next week when it travels to the Fresno State Lexus Classic on Monday and Tuesday, looking to defend its 2010 team title.
