SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team won its third straight match, with a 6-1 defeat of the San Francisco Dons Saturday, in San Francisco, Calif. The Aggies won all three doubles matches and five out of six in singles, improving to 4-2 overall in the spring season.
Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui set the tone with an 8-3 defeat of Julia Wartenburger and Melinda Akerbrant. Pairings of Dahra Zamudio/Nicole Koehly and Lauren Curry/Ellie Edles also won their respective matches with 8-4 scores. The order of finish in doubles was 1, 2, 3.
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition, Curry cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Alana McMahon in the No. 6 position. In No. 4 singles, Koehly defeated Cecilia Gratian, 6-1, 6-1. The clinching win came in No. 2 singles, where Zamudio took down Cecile Duriez, 6-2, 6-3. Heneghan and Edles also took wins for the Aggies. The order of finish in singles was 6, 4, 2, 1, 3, 5.
UC Davis will look to keep their win streak alive next week, when they play their home opener against Sonoma State on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
