STANFORD, Calif - The UC Davis women's tennis team faced off with No. 1 Stanford Wednesday, as the Aggies dropped a 7-0 match against the defending national champions at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (1-0) won all three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition, where they took all six matches against the Aggies (1-2) in two hours and 21 minutes of action.
UC Davis faced the toughest competition in the nation, including four players who are ranked in the top 100. No. 5 Hilary Barte defeated Dahra Zamudio in the first singles match, 6-2, 6-0. Nicole Koehly played tough in the No. 4 position, taking four games in set one against No. 47 Stacy Tan, despite a 6-4, 6-1 loss.
Stanford has now won 165 consecutive matches (133 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament) on its home court- a streak that spans nearly 12 seasons and is the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics.
The Aggies travel to Portland, Ore. this weekend to play Portland and Portland State. UC Davis will face Portland on Saturday at 11 a.m and Portland State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
