TEMPE, Ariz. - The UC Davis women's tennis team started the weekend with a win, taking a 4-3 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday, in their first dual match of the season. The Aggies took two out of three doubles matches, while splitting in the singles matches en route to the win. Iowa State dropped to 0-2 on the young season, while UC Davis improved to 1-0.
Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui defeated Maria Macedo and Tessa Lang in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-3, while Ellie Edles and Lauren Curry picked up a win in No. 3 doubles over Erin Karonis and Liza Wischer, 8-5.
With a 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition, UC Davis took three wins, all by Aggie freshman. Heneghan had the first singles win for the Aggies in the No. 2 position, against Erin Karonis, 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 4 spot, Nicole Koehly defeated Jenna Langhorst, 6-4, 6-4. Kelly Chui had the clinching win for UC Davis, after a come from behind victory over Simona Cacciuttolo, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Aggies will conclude their road trip on Sunday, when they play the host school, Arizona State at 10 a.m.
