Final Stats
BERKELEY, Calif. - Claire Dougherty and Andrea Earle each scored a pair of goals for California, as the Golden Bears took a 5-1 victory over UC Davis Sunday at Maxwell Family Field in Berkeley, Calif.
The Aggies dropped their second NorPac game of the weekend, to move to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Califronia picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-2 and 1-1 in NorPac competition.
UC Davis played California even for most of the first half, with each team posting three shots in the first 28 minutes. The Golden Bears reached the scoreboard first with 29 minutes on the clock, thanks to Earle's first goal of the game. After 35 minutes of play, California kept a 1-0 advantage during the halftime break.
Marissa Hughes scored the lone goal for UC Davis in the 37th minute of the play to start the second half, evening the score at 1-1. The Golden Bears didn't take long to respond however, answering with a goal from Erin Magill six minutes later.
California started to create some distance from there, posting two more goals just three minutes apart from each other, at the 49 and 51 minute marks. Earle tallied her second goal of the game with eight minutes left in the game, to make it a final 5-1 score.
The Golden Bears out shot the Aggies 17-7 but held just a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
UC Davis will enjoy a 10-day break, before they return to action at Missouri State on Wednesday Sept. 15 at 11 a.m.
