STOCKTON, Calif. - Maggie Barry's goal early in the second half broke a 1-1 tie and helped lift the UC Davis women's field hockey team to a 2-1 win over host Pacific on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition game at Brookside Field.
The exhibition was the only one of the preseason for the Aggies who will face Miami (Ohio) in Berkeley on Aug. 30 in their regular-season opener.
Barry's score, coming off a deflection, came barely more than four minutes into the second half and gave UC Davis the lead for good after the Tigers scored late in the opening half to tie the game. Cloey LemMon had given the Aggies an early advantage, knocking in a loose ball in front of the net less than 12 minutes into the game.
Alohilani Ornellas then knotted it for Pacific with 4:46 remaining in the half, scoring off an assist from Sarah Miceli on a penalty corner. Berry's goal followed less than 10 minutes later, proving to be the game-winner. Nadia Namdari was credited with an assist on LemMon's goal while Lydia Brambila picked up the assist on Barry's.
UC Davis outshot Pacific 15-8, putting nine of its attempts on goal. Goalie Lauren Sawvelle had two saves while Danielle Herrington had one.
The Aggies will continue preparations for the season-opener against Miami which will be played at Cal. The game will start at noon.
