2010-11 UC Davis men's basketball schedule
DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis, coming off a program-best semifinal appearance at the 2010 Big West Men's Basketball Tournament, will play Pac-10 teams California and UCLA while also hosting an exciting 14-game 2010-11 home season, it was announced by head coach Gary Stewart on Thursday.
The Aggies' home slate will be countered with 16 road games, including the BTI Tipoff Classic in November at the University of Portland when they open the season with a challenging schedule of three games in three days.
UC Davis will host a pair of exhibition games against Menlo College (Nov. 3) and Academy of the Art (Nov. 6) and then play at Portland before making their home debut at The Pavilion against UC Santa Cruz (Nov. 17) and Boise State (Nov. 21). The Aggies beat the Broncos during last season's ESPNU BracketBusters event. Season tickets will be available soon through the UC Davis Athletics Marketing office.
Cal and perennial national power UCLA highlight a schedule that features four teams that reached the 20-win plateau and four that played in the postseason. Pac-10 regular-season champion Cal, which beat Louisville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to eventual national champion Duke in the second, finished 24-11. The Bears will host the Aggies on Dec. 1 at Haas Pavilion as the teams meet for the first time since the 1986-87 season.
The Aggies and Bruins will play on Dec. 13 at legendary Pauley Pavilion, facing each other for the second time in the past four seasons.
Cal joins Wisc.-Milwaukee (20-14), Portland (21-11), UC Santa Barbara (21-10) and Pacific (23-12) as 20-game winners on the Aggies' upcoming schedule. UCSB, defending Big West champion, played in the NCAA Tournament while Portland and Pacific each participated in the CollegeInsiders.com postseason event.
The Aggies will face Wisc.-Milwaukee during the season-opening BTI Tipoff Classic from Nov. 12-14 in Portland, follow with Florida Atlantic and then conclude against the host Pilots. Pre-conference games at home will also be against Seattle (Nov. 27), Notre Dame de Namur (Dec. 4) and Southern Utah (Dec. 21).
Other nonconference road games will be played at rival Sacramento State (Nov. 23), North Dakota State (Dec. 16) and at Seattle (Feb. 15). UC Davis will also host a matchup on Feb. 19 during the annual ESPNU Bracket Busters midseason event. That opponent will be determined closer to that date.
The Aggies will tip off their fourth season in the Big West on Dec. 28 at Cal State Fullerton, playing eight games at home and eight away from The Pavilion during the league season. They will face rival Pacific at home on Jan. 22 and then later conclude the regular season with home games against Cal State Northridge (Mar. 3) and Cal State Fullerton (Mar. 5) to help highlight their appearances on Hamilton Court.
UC Davis, 14-18 overall and 8-8 in the Big West last season, will be trying to earn a spot in the eight-team conference tournament which will move this season from the Anaheim Convention Center to the nearby Honda Center.
