IRVINE, Calif. - For the second straight year, the UC Davis mens' and women's basketball teams have been honored with the 2010 Big West Winter Sportsmanship Awards, announced the conference office recently. The Sportsmanship Award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the Big West's 18 championship sports. Both Aggie programs received the award in 2008-09.
A total of four teams received a Sportsmanship Award. Cal State Northridge's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were also given the honor.
"Sportsmanship is taken very seriously by the Big West Conference, and the UC Davis basketball and Cal State Northridge swimming teams should be proud to receive this award," said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. "Acknowledgement from your peers for exceptional conduct in competition is something everyone should strive for."
The most recent honors for UC Davis add to a long list of Big West Sportsmanship Awards for Aggie programs. The baseball, softball and men's tennis teams were selected in 2009, and the volleyball team was honored in 2008.
