RENO, Calif. -- Senior Kimberly Johnson picked up medalist honors by shooting par 72 at the Red Hawk Golf Club on Friday afternoon and helping the 31st-ranked Aggie women's golf team beat the host Wolf Pack 297-303 at the UC Davis-Nevada Challenge.
The match, added during the season to help make up for tournament action lost earlier this spring because of inclement weather, was played on the 6,048-yard course at Red Hawk. UC Davis won the match by also getting a strong round of 73 from junior Chelsea Stelzmiller, who tied for second, a 3-over 75 from freshman Amy Simanton who tied for fifth, and 77s fron Alice Kim and Demi Runas who each tied for eighth.
Nevada was led by Lauren Hernandez and Jamie Yam who equaled Stelzmiller's 73 and tied for second.
Besides their five scoring players, each team had individuals competing as well. For UC Davis, Brittany Smith tied for fifth with a 75, Belen Hernandez had a 76 and finished seventh, Katie Sisler carded a 77 and tied for eighth and Lauren Dobashi was 14th after a 79.
Johnson shot 36 on both the front and back nine while Stelzmiller fired a 35 on her back nine.
UC Davis will return to action at the Big West Conference Championships beginning Apr. 18 at Cal Poly.
