IRVINE, Calif. - A total of 16 UC Davis student-athletes from three teams earned 2010 Big West Conference All-Academic honors for winter sports, it was announced Thursday by the conference office. The Aggie men's and women's swimming and diving teams each had seven honorees while the women's basketball team received two accolades.

In order to be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be in sophomore standing academically and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests. In total, 70 student-athletes from nine member institutions were selected.

In women's basketball, senior Haylee Donaghe and junior Heidi Heintz were selected. Donaghe receives the honor for the second time in her Aggie career while this marks the first selection for Heintz.

The seven men's swimming and diving honorees is the largest contingent among the 23 honorees for that sport. Sophomore diver Mark Alger earns the award for the first time in his UC Davis career as does senior diver William LaBarge. Adam Borchard, Tristan Kaiser, Paul Navo and Scott Weltz each were selected for the second consecutive year while this marks the third straight year that senior Russ Underwood has been named to the All-Academic team.

On the women's side, Jen Cadmus, Samantha Capozzo, Ashley Chandler, Jenah Dawson, Linda Hermann, Julie Peri and Shiree Segev were among the 22 winners in that sport. The total of seven matches UC Santa Barbara for the most honorees. This marks the first award for Cadmus, Dawson and Segev while Capozzo, Hermann and Peri receive their second straight All-Academic team selection. Chandler was named to the Spring 2009 All-Academic Team for women's water polo.
