FULLERTON, Calif. - Scott Heylman went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Justin Schafer was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead UC Davis in a 23-7 loss to Cal State Fullerton Friday at Goodwin Field.

UC Davis now stands at 12-11 overall and 0-2 in Big West play while Cal State Fullerton improves to 14-11 and 2-0 in conference action.

Sophomore Anthony Kupbens moved to 3-3 on the year after giving up 16 earned runs on 15 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Cal State Fullerton's Daniel Renken got the win to improve to 3-2 overall.

Cal State Fullerton used three doubles and a triple en route to a six-run first inning, then Nick Ramirez hit a grand slam in the second inning to help the Titans pick up six more runs to jump to an early 12-1 lead.

Scott Lyman started the fourth inning with a double then advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Mihaylo. Lyman would score on a groundout to third base by Paul Politi to bring the score to 12-2.

The Aggies continued to close the gap and scored three runs in the fifth inning. Heylman reached base on a single to center field, then advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Schafer before crossing home plate later in the inning. A single by Eric Johnson to right center would score Schafer. Johnson then advanced to third on another double by Lyman and took advantage of a fielding error by Titans' left fielder Austin Moore to score UC Davis' third run of the inning.

The Titans extended their lead with four runs in the fifth inning, including a homerun by Christian Colon, to bring the score to 17-5.

UC Davis' offense brought in two runs in the sixth inning. Politi scored off a double by Heylman, and Joseph Medeiros would also score on a groundout to the shortstop by Schafer.

The Titans did not allow a hit in the remaining three Aggie innings.

The final game of the series begins Saturday at 1 p.m. Scott Lyman will start on the mound for UC Davis while Cal State Fullerton will throw Tyler Pill.
