IRVINE, Calif. - Paige Mintun, who helped clinch UC Davis' first-ever Big West Conference regular-season championship by scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, was named the league's Player of the Week on Monday.
The honor is the second of the year for UC Davis - Heidi Heintz earned the award in December - and its first during conference play. It was the second honor of the day given to Mintun who was also named to the All-Big West first team.
Mintun, a 6-foor-2 junior post from Valley Center, earned the recognition after scoring a season-high 23 points on Thursday against Cal State Northridge - most by an Aggie this year - while tying her season-high with nine field goals.
Her double-double effort during UC Davis' title-clinching 80-52 win against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, was her first such effort this year. For the week, she averaged 22.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg. She was also 10 of 11 from the free throw line and had three blocks and four steals.
With victories over Cal State Northridge (62-53) and the Titans, UC Davis earned the top seed at this week's Big West Tournament in Anaheim. The Aggies will open the event during the semifinals on Friday at noon.
