DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis men's basketball freshman Julian Welch has been named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman All-America Team. Welch just completed a standout redshirt freshman campaign in which he collected the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year Award.

Welch finished fourth on the team with 7.8 ppg. and made 27 three-pointers. He scored 10 or more points in 10 games, including a career-high 25 at Cal Poly on Jan. 10. Welch had a strong finish to the season, averaging 15.3 points in the team's final three games. He scored in double figures in each of the team's two Big West Tournament games.

Welch is the second Aggie in the past three years to receive the CollegeInsider.com Freshman All-America nod. In 2008, Mark Payne was also selected to the team.

He is one of two players from the Big West Conference on the 20-member team, joining Pacific's Allen Huddleston.
