AUSTIN, Texas - Three birdies - including two on par-5 holes - helped UC Davis junior
Chelsea Stelzmiller to a team-best 75 on Sunday morning as the 24th-ranked Aggie women's golf team tied for 13th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas.
Stelzmiller's round gave her a three-round total of 13-over 229, tying her for 26th in the individual standings. UC Davis fired a 314 team score over the final 18 holes, ending the tournament tied for 13th with No. 32 Washington.
Top-ranked UCLA held off No. 7 Arizona for the team title, shooting 11-over 299 on Sunday for a 20-over 884 for the event. The Bruins beat the Wildcats by six shots. Texas A&M, ranked 25th, took third at 897 while No. 22 TCU (901) and No. 35 Texas (907) completed the top five.
The Longhorn Invitational featured 16 different schools - Texas had both an A and B squad entered - and all but one are ranked in Golfstat's top 50. UC Davis finished in front of No. 45 Tulsa which was eight shots behind, and only four back of No. 41 Northwestern.
Stelzmiller was the highest-placing Aggie at the tournament. Junior Alice Kim tied for 47th at 20-over, freshman Amy Simanton tied for 54th at 21-over, freshman Demi Runas was 70th and senior Lauren Dobashi tied for 76th.
Stelzmiller had three birdies in the final round, two of them on par-5 holes. She also birdied the par-3 second which helped get her to just one over at that point in her round. Kim and Simanton each carded 78's with Kim picking up two birdies and Simanton recording 15 pars.
Sarah Zwartynski of Texas A&M shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday for a five-shot win over Marina Alex of Vanderbilt.
UC Davis is off until participating in the Big West Conference Championships in San Luis Obispo in mid-April.
