DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis will host UC Riverside Sunday afternoon in another pivotal Big West Conference men's basketball game at The Pavilion. It will also be the Aggies' home finale, and senior Dominic Calegari will be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day. UC Davis (11-16, 6-7 Big West) will be trying to sweep the season series with UC Riverside while the Highlanders will be aiming for a fourth straight victory. The game tips at 1 p.m.
Calegari continues to put together an impressive career with the program. He enters the game with 1,180 points along with 456 rebounds, 140 assists, 73 steals and 73 blocks. He has started 85 games and appeared in 110 throughout his career. Calegari has also started 70 straight games for the Aggies going back to the 2007-08 season. This year, he leads the team with 16. 3 ppg. and is third in the Big West in scoring.
UC Riverside enters the game 12-15 overall and 5-9 in the Big West. The Highlanders are one of the hottest teams in the conference with four wins in their past five games. Most recently, UCR defeated Pacific, 62-53, in Stockton. The Highlanders boast the Big West's leading scorer in Kyle Austin, who is averaging 18.3 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds. The team's next highest scorer is Larry Gurganious at 7.9 ppg. UCR's only loss in the past five games was to Cal Poly in double overtime on Feb. 13.
UC Riverside leads the all-time series, 26-24. UC Davis defeated UCR, 60-50, on Jan. 28 in Riverside. At The Pavilion, the Aggies have won the past two and three out of the past four.
Entering Saturday, UC Davis finds itself in fifth-place in the Big West. The Aggies trail third-place Cal State Fullerton (8-6) and Long Beach State (7-7). UC Santa Barbara leads the Big West at 11-3 followed by Pacific (9-4). Three games are scheduled for Saturday night.
