UC Davis Readies For Big West Stretch Run

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team is set to host its final two games of the season this week when it faces Long Beach State and UC Riverside in two critical Big West Conference games at The Pavilion. The Aggies take on LBSU Thursday night at 7 p.m. before battling UC Riverside in Sunday afternoon's home finale. All of the action will be available on KFSG 1690-AM as well as www.ucdavisaggies.com.

UC Davis enters the week 11-15 overall and 6-6 in the Big West. The Aggies are in fourth place in the conference, one half game behind 7-6 Cal State Fullerton. UC Davis owns a half-game lead over both Long Beach State and Cal Poly. The 49ers enter the game 13-14 overall and 6-7 in the Big West. UC Davis is one of three teams in the conference with four games remaining with the other six teams having just three to play.

In the Aggies' last game, Dominic Calegari scored 26 points, and Joe Harden added 24 as UC Davis defeated Boise State, 82-74, Saturday night on the road. The Aggies led by nine at the half and never let the Broncos get closer than seven the rest of the way. Harden scored 20 points in the second half alone and came within one rebound of his seventh double-double of the season. Todd Lowenthal joined Harden with nine rebounds to go along with seven points and four assists. Ryan Sypkens finished with 11 points, and Ryan Howley added eight. UC Davis used an 11-0 run late in the first half to open up a nine-point lead, and had a 16-point lead in the second half.

Calegari is now third in the Big West with 16.6 points per game and is among the top-eight in five categories. He leads the conference in field goal percentage (.529).

Long Beach State is coming off a 77-66 win at Idaho on Saturday after dropping consecutive games to UC Santa Barbara and Pacific. T.J. Robinson leads the team with 15.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and has 16 double-doubles on the year. The 49ers defeated the Aggies, 80-58, Jan. 30 in Long Beach.

Sunday's game with UC Riverside begins at 1 p.m. UCR is 11-15 overall and 4-9 in the Big West heading into Thursday's game at Pacific. Calegari, the lone Aggie senior, will be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day.
