Box Score

Feb. 16, 2010

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by Seattle University, 81-56, Tuesday night in a non-conference men's basketball game at KeyArena. Dominic Calegari led UC Davis (10-15) with 19 points, and Alex Jones led Seattle (13-13) with a game-high 24 points. The Redhawks used a 19-4 run in the second half to pull away from the Aggies. It was the third straight game UC Davis played without Mark Payne, the team's leader in scoring average.

Joe Harden added 15 points for the Aggies, and Todd Lowenthal pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds. Seattle shot 53 percent for the night while holding the Aggies to just 32 percent. UC Davis also committed 23 turnovers compared to 16 for Seattle.

UC Davis led just once, at 9-8, four minutes into the game. It was tied at 11-11 before the Redhawks went on a 10-0 run to take a 21-11 lead. The Aggies countered with an 8-0 run. Lowenthal started it with a layup, and Calegari then made two of his nine free throws. A layup by Harden and a bucket by Julian Welch pulled UC Davis within 21-19 with 8:07 left in the half.

Seattle then used an 11-3 burst to reclaim a 10-point lead at the 4:37 mark. UC Davis closed the half on an 8-2 run of its own as Harden and Calegari scored four points each. The result was a 34-30 Seattle lead at the half.

A three-pointer by Calegari just over a minute into the second half closed the gap to 36-34. That would be as close as UC Davis would get as Seattle went on a 19-4 run and led 55-38 by the midway point of the second half. The closest the Aggies would get was 14 the rest of the way.

Tuesday's game was the first of two this week for the Aggies against non-conference opponents. The squad is next in action Saturday night at Boise State as part of the nationwide BracketBusters event. The contest tips at 6:05 PST and can be heard on KFSG 1690-AM as well as www.ucdavisaggies.com.
