Updated season statistics STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Alice Kim shot a 3-over 74 on Sunday to tie for seventh while freshman Demi Runas tied for 10th after a 75 as the No. 25 UC Davis women's golf team posted the fourth-lowest score of the day to place fifth at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course.
UC Davis cut five strokes after its first round score from Saturday, shooting a 24-over 305 and tying No. 36 Washington for the fourth-best tally of the second round. The Aggies finished six shots behind the fourth-place Huskies in the final standings while beating sixth-place San Jose Sate by seven strokes.
The host Cardinal were the only team to break 300 in the second round, making up eight shots on first-day leader Cal to beat the Golden Bears by one shot and claim the team title on its own course. Stanford, ranked 24th, finished at 596, No. 21 Cal was second at 597 and No. 37 Oregon grabbed third at 607.
Kim and Runas each moved up the individual standings after entering the final round tied for 15th. Kim had the Aggies' best round, shooting 74 to finish at 9-over 151 while Runas' 75 vaulted her five spots in the final placings at 152. Both players duplicated finishes in their last event - the Turtle Bay Collegiate Invitational last November.
Freshman Amy Simanton matched her 78 from Saturday's first round with another on Sunday and tied for 25th at 156, while freshman Belen Hernandez tied for 27th one shot behind Simanton after shooting 79. Lauren Dobashi improved her score by two shots, finishing with a 78 over the final 18 holes to tie for 32nd at 158.
Stanford's Sally Watson and Cal's Joanne Lee shared medalist honors after concluding the 11-team tournament at 3-over 144.
UC Davis will return to competition on Mar. 1-2 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.
