DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis senior Heidi Heintz was selected as the Big West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending December 25, it was announced by the league office on Thursday. This is Heintz' second such award in her career, having garnered similar honors more than a year prior. Furthermore, Thursday's award marks the second time an Aggie has claimed the weekly nod, with Vicky Deely capturing the first on November 22.
Heintz, a wing from Spokane, Wash., shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line en route to a game-high 19 points in Tuesday's 102-62 victory over San Jose State. She also supplied four rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes of court time. Heintz tallied eight points in UC Davis' 26-2 start and had 15 points in just 12 minutes during a 48-19 first half.
The former University of San Francisco transfer has now scored in double figures in three straight games, totaling 46 points and 14 rebounds in road wins over Wichita State, Sacramento State and San Jose State.
The Aggies hold a 9-2 record and No. 8 rank in Tuesday's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. They return to action on Monday in a 7 p.m. home game against Santa Clara, then commence Big West Conference play with home contests with Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge on December 31 and January 2, respectively.
