UC Davis Rolls Past San Jose State, 102-62

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Heidi Heintz scored a game-high 19 points, UC Davis opened a big lead early in the game and the Aggies roared to their third straight victory with an easy 102-62 nonconference women's basketball win over host San Jose State on Tuesday night.

UC Davis, which went 3-1 on its season-long four-game roadtrip, improved to 9-2 for the first time in nearly a decade. The Aggies also won by 40 points for the first time since beating Bethany 76-36 exactly five years ago and went over the 100-point barrier for the first time since the 1998-99 season.

UC Davis entered the game ranked No. 8 in the latest Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 released on Tuesday afternoon.

Myesha Broaden scored 19 points for San Jose State which fell to 0-11. Brittany Johnson added 16 while Sayja Sumler had 11 and Sara Plavljanin finished with 10.

Paige Mintun added 18 points and a game-high tying six rebounds for the Aggies who who shot 56.5 percent from the field, including 50 percent (14 of 28) from beyond the arc. Samantha Meggison scored 14 points and sophomore guard Hannah Stephens pitched in with 12, canning four treys.

UC Davis led 6-0 two minutes into the game before later rattling off 20 straight points to take a 26-2 lead near the mdway point of the half. Heintz scored eight points during the run, Stephens had a three-pointer and Vicky Deely completed a three-point play to help highlight the scoring. The Spartans went scoreless for more than seven minutes before Sumler made a layup with 10 minutes, 10 seconds left in the half.

The lead grew to as much as 30 points at 46-16 with 1:53 to go before UC Davis went into the break with a comfortable 48-19 advantage. The Aggies had just four turnovers in the first 20 minutes, benefitted from 15 by San Jose State and shot better than 50 percent from the floor.

The second half brought more of the same for UC Davis which made an impressive 9 of 14 (64.3 percent) from three-point territory after halftime, missed just 10 shots overall while shooting 63 percent and went 11 of 12 from the line. The advantage was as big as 41 points in the second half before finishing at 102-62.

Mintun scored 12 of her points in the second half and Meggison was a perfect 3 for 3 from three-point after halftime. Stephens was 4 for 5 from beyond the arc overall. The Aggies also outrebounded the Spartans 32-21, the second straight opponent that UC Davis has outboarded.

The last time the Aggies went over the century mark was in a 107-68 victory over Cal State more than a decade ago.

The Aggies, who have won 12 straight at home, return to The Pavilion on Monday to face Santa Clara at 7 p.m. The home winning streak is tied for the 15th-longest active streak in NCAA Div. I.
