DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Vicky Deely, who has made an amazing 52.5 percent of her three-point shots this season, has risen to No. 2 among all Division I women's basketball players in that department, according to statistics released by the NCAA on Monday afternoon.
Deely, a 6-foot wing from Sonoma, has canned 21 of her 40 attempts this year, and trails only Zhaque Gray of Penn State who has mde 52.6 percent (30 of 57). Christian Shelter of South Alabama is barely behind Deely in third at 52.4 percent (22 of 42).
Deely is also among the national leaders in three-pointers per game, ranking in a tie for 49th at at 2.6 pg.
She entered the season with just 16 career treys and a 36.4-percent average but has ignited UC Davis off the bench with her torrid shooting. Deely made a career-high five three-pointers at UCLA on Nov. 12 and had three on Sunday against Kansas State. She currently leads UC Davis in btoh scoring (12.3) and rebounding (5.6).
UC Davis returns to action on Tuesday when it faces Wichita State on the road beginning at 5 p.m. (Pacific).
