UC Davis Visits No. 15 UCLA On Sunday Afternoon

Nov. 21, 2010

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UC Davis women's basketball team, off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2007, will face its biggest challenge of the season so far when it visits undefeated No. 15 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at legendary Pauley Pavilion.

Tipoff is 2 p.m. and can be heard on KDVS (90.3 FM) and on www.ucdavisaggies.com.

The Aggies are coming off a 70-62 win at Pepperdine on Friday night, winning despite committing a season-high 30 turnovers and making just 9 of 19 free throw attempts. UC Davis, however, shared the ball well picking up 23 assists on 27 baskets and went 7 of 18 from beyond the arc.

A late 13-3 run helped the Aggies pull away from Pepperdine - which like UC Davis went to the Women's National Invitational Tournament last season - down the stretch after the Waves had gotten to within 51-50.

Kasey Riecks had a season-high 17 points for UC Davis, canning four three-pointers while also posting a team-high four steals. Vicky Deely had 12 points off the bench and grabbed eight rebounds for the third straight game.

On Sunday, the Aggies will face a Bruins team which went to South Bend, Ind., on Thursday and upset No. 12 Notre Dame 86-83 in double-overtime. Five players scored in double figures including forward Jasmine Dixon who had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Darxia Morris added 17 while Markel Walker scored 12.

The Bruins, who had 18 offensive rebounds, also posted 15 steals.

UCLA advanced to the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament, finishing the year with a 25-9 record. The Bruins are led in scoring by Dixon who is averaging 15.0 ppg to go with 8.3 rpg. Walker is adding 12.0 while Dixon is scoring at a 11.3 ppg clip.

UCLA is holding opponents to just 61.0 ppg. The Bruins have struggled from three-point where they are shooting just 19.2% and from the line where they are making just 60.9%. They're outrebounding opponents, 42.3-37.0 ppg.

The Bruins, who are playing UC Davis for the first time since the 1972-73 season (UCLA, 49-47) and for just the second time ever, played Big West member UC Santa Barbara last weekend, winning 66-52.

The Aggies will return home following the game and prepare for a three-game homestand which begins with games against Yale on Friday and South Carolina next Sunday.
