Aggie Women Debut In Mid-Major Top 25

Nov. 16, 2010

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's basketball team, coming off its second win over a Pac-10 opponent since 2007 and off to a 2-0 start, is ranked No. 24 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, a first for the Aggies who are in their fourth year at the NCAA Division I level.

The Aggies debuted in the poll with 118 points, one of three teams along with No. 16 East Tennessee State (2-0) and Missouri State (1-1) to make their first appearance this season in the rankings.

Green Bay (2-0) received 22 first-place votes and 764 points to take over the top spot from Gonzaga (1-1) which is now No. 3 after losing 79-73 at USC last week. Ark.-Little Rock (1-0) is No. 2, Princeton (0-0) is No. 4 and Old Dominion (1-0) is fifth.

The Aggies are the only Big West Conference team that is ranked although Cal Poly is listed among others receiving votes after having garnered five.

The ranking is another big step for UC Davis which continues to establish a strong presence in the Big West. The Aggies, 21-11 last year, won the league's regular-season title with a 12-4 record and advanced to the conference championship for the second time in three years. UC Davis lost a heartbreaker to UC Riverside in the title game before participating in the Women's National Invitational Tournament.

The Aggies return to action on Friday when they travel to Pepperdine. They visit No. 15 UCLA on Sunday.
