Final Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Paige Mintun scored 19 points and Heidi Heintz tallied 13 on Monday as UC Davis evened its Big West Conference record with a convincing 82-56 women's basketball win over Cal State Northridge at The Matadome.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Aggies who improved to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big West. Northridge, which was paced by a career-high four three-pointers and 16 points from Katrina Thompson, lost for the third straight time and is 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the league.

UC Davis, which gained a weekend split of its conference-openers after losing at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, received scoring from all 12 players in uniform. Vicky Deely scored all eight of her points from the free throw line, while Lauren Juric and Cortney French each had three-pointers and finished with seven points.

The Aggies also bounced back well at the charity stripe, canning 30 of 37 attempts, after making an uncharacteristic 9 of 18 two days ago.

After trailing briefly in the early minutes, UC Davis used a 15-2 run to open a 10-point lead and then later answered a Matador rally that saw them get to within 21-18, by using a 17-2 surge over the final six minutes for a 38-20 halftime lead.

Mintun, who missed four games in December with a foot injury before coming back on Saturday at Fullerton, was a big part of the sizeable halftime lead, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Heintz had nine points before the break.

Two free throws from Heintz four minutes into the second half gave UC Davis its second 20-point lead after intermission, but Northridge rallied, getting to within 53-43 midway after Thompson hit a three. Lisa Peterson, though, hit a trey from the corner, French followed with one from the right wing and Mintun scored on a layup as the Aggies opened the lead to 61-43 with 6:57 left.

"Everybody got a chance to contribute," said Aggie coach Sandy Simpson. "Everybody stepped up and responded tonight. But what I really liked was that in the middle of each half Northridge put a little run on and each time we responded and finished each half well."

UC Davis held a 42-35 rebounding advantage, marking just the second time this year it has o utboarded an opponent. Mintun and Juric each had seven while Kasey Riecks had five.

Mintun also had four steals, just one less than Donaghe who led all players.

UC Davis will return to action on Thursday when it hosts preseason Big West favorite UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. at The Pavilion. The Aggies will host Cal Poly on Saturday, also at 7.
