DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team played an integral part in a campus-wide emergency exercise this week. The Aggies were among as many as 200 volunteers who assisted the UC Davis Police and Fire departments in the exercise, named "Gallant Eagle," which was designed to test the campus' ability to respond to a major violent incident.
The exercise focused on an active shooter situation and followed a timeline based on historical data relating to such an environment. The men's basketball volunteers were assigned to participate in what was called the "hot zone" and were broken up into zones such as labs or lecture halls.
The men's basketball team, which takes part in numerous community service efforts on an annual basis, volunteered for a similar exercise put on by the City of Davis in November 2006.
