2008-09 Big West Conference Commissoner's Cup Release and Standings in PDF Format 
DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis, which captured the Big West Conference men's golf championship and had five second-place finishes in other sports, finished fifth in the final standings for the league's 2008-09 Commissioner's Cup, it was announced on Tuesday.
The Cup is awarded to the most successful program across 18 championships in the nine-institution Big West Conference. Points are awarded to each school participating in a championship with bonus points awarded to a sport's champion. The school with the highest average point total across its sponsored sports is awarded the Commissioner's Cup.
Long Beach State had an average score of 110.0 points to claim first place in this year's race and was followed by Cal Poly (107.6), UC Irvine, (105.9), UC Santa Barbara (102.9) and UC Davis (85.6) in the top five.
The Aggies' score was buoyed by a league championship in men's golf which won the Big West title in just it second year of competing at the tournament. UC Davis went on to participate at the NCAA West Regional in Daly City.
UC Davis, the only Big West insitution to sponsor all 18 sports offered by the Big West, was also helped by second-place showings from men's cross country, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, women's golf and men's track and field.
UC Davis finished eighth last year, it's first year in the Big West Conference.
