Official Big West Conference Release in PDF Format 
DAVIS, Calif. -- A total of 13 UC Davis student-athletes have earned 2008-09 Academic All-Big West Conference honors for the winter season, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. The Aggie women's and men's swimming and diving teams had the most student-athletes honored with six apiece while men's basketball honored one.
A total of 92 student-athletes earned the all-academic honors among the nine-team conference. To be eligible for such distinction, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average or better, completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season, and competed in at least half of their team's contests.
Women's swimming and diving had the most overall honorees as a total of 33 student-athletes earned distinction. From UC Davis, senior Kendra Hughes, junior Heidi Kucera and sophomores Linda Hermann, Rebecca Koch, Samantha Capozzo and Julie Peri were named. UC Santa Barbara topped the list with 10 student-athletes.
The men's swimming and diving team was represented by senior Michael Androus, juniors Scott Weltz and Russ Underwood, and sophomores Paul Navo, Tristan Kaiser and Adam Borchard. Weltz's honors come on the heels of his two honorable mention All-America honors while Borchard was recently named UC Davis' Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year. UC Irvine landed nine on the 30-person list.
The lone Aggie basketball player to earn the distinction was sophomore Todd Lowenthal. Pacific was the only school to place multiple players on the list. Long Beach State led the way on the women's side with six honorees.
The 2008-09 season is the second academic year in which UC Davis is an official member of the Big West Conference.
