Aggies To Face Anteaters To Begin Big West Tourney

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team will take on UC Irvine next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Big West Tournament. Final seeding and first round match-ups were finally decided after the conclusion of Saturday night's action around the conference.

The Aggies will be the No. 8 seed while the Anteaters secured a No. 5 seed with their victory over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. A win against UCI would set UC Davis up with a quarterfinal game against Pacific on Thursday.

Despite a loss at Pacific, Cal State Northridge claimed the regular season title and the No. 1 seed. Long Beach State is the No. 2 seed followed by Pacific and UC Santa Barbara. UC Riverside received the No. 6 seed, and Cal State Fullerton is No. 7.

UC Davis swept the season series with UC Irvine, winning 88-85 on Jan. 17 in Irvine and 85-76 on Feb. 12 at The Pavilion.

The winner of next week's Big West Tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
