UC Davis Resumes Action Sunday At Stanford

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team resumes action this Sunday when heads to the Bay Area to take on Stanford. The non-conference game tips at shortly after 7 p.m. at Maples Pavilion and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The game can also be heard on KFSG 1690-AM as well as www.ucdavisaggies.com.

UC Davis (3-5) will have had eight days between games when it takes on the Cardinal. The Aggies were last in action on Dec. 5 when they were defeated by Seattle, 88-78, at home. Mark Payne tied a career-high with 22 points and blocked a career-high four shots. Dominic Calegari also scored 22 in the loss. It was the third time in four games Calegari scored 22 or more.

Payne's effort has vaulted him to second in the Big West in scoring (17.4 ppg.). Calegari is sixth at 15.3 ppg. Joe Harden, who missed the Seattle game with an injury, is seventh in the Big West at 15.0 ppg. Payne is among the top-5 in the conference in several offensive and defensive categories.

Stanford enters the game with a 4-3 record. The game will be the first for Stanford since Nov. 29 when it defeated Portland State, 83-6-4, at home. The Cardinal have also posted wins over Cal Poly, Florida A&M and Virginia. Their losses have been to San Diego, Oral Roberts and No. 5 Kentucky. Senior Landry Field leads the team with 23.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Stanford leads the all-time series, 13-1. The Cardinal won the first 2 meetings in the series before the Aggies posted a 64-58 victory on Dec. 4, 2005, at The Pavilion in Davis. The last meeting was on Nov. 28, 2006, at Maples Pavilion as Stanford posted an 84-72 victory.

Sunday's game is the first of three straight for UC Davis on the road. The Aggies play at Fresno State on Dec. 17 and at Air Force on Dec. 22. UC Davis does not play at home again until Dec. 30.
