KAHUKU, Hawaii - The 27th-ranked UC Davis women's golf team posted its biggest win its brief history on Wednesday, dominating a high-powered field that included top-ranked UCLA to post a nine-shot win at the Turtle Bay Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii.

Nearly half of the 18 teams in the 54-hole tournament are currently ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek, including No. 1 UCLA, No. 8 USC and No. 10 Cal which finished second through fourth, respectively. The Aggies, who led after each round, finished at 4-over 868 with UCLA a distant second at 13-over 877. USC was third at 15-over, Cal finished at 19-over and No. 49 Oregon rounded out the top five at 32-over.

"This really shows that we will be competing each week and that we're one of the best teams on the west coast," said head coach Anne Walker.

UC Davis had three players among the top 10 places, including a pair of true freshmen in Amy Simanton who tied for second at 3-under 213, and Demi Runas who tied for 10th at 2-over 218. Junior Alice Kim, the first-day leader after shooting a 5-under 67 on Monday, tied for seventh at 1-over 217. Junior Chelsea Stelzmiller tied for 35th at 13-over while senior Kimberly Johnson tied for 42nd at 15-over.

Junior Katie Sisler played as an individual, tied for 51st at 17-over.

Simanton led the Aggies on Wednesday with an impressive round of 68, picking up two birdies on the front nine of the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay - teams played the George Fazio Course at the resort the first two days - to make the turn at 2-under. Two more birdies on her next three holes pushed her to four under before she balanced her card the rest of the way.

Kim had three birdies during her 74, playing each side just one shot over par. Runas, the second-day leader after shooting 69 on Tuesday, struggled through the 7th through 10th holes but gave back just one shot the rest of round while shooting 81. Stelzmiller highlighted her final-round 76 with 15 pars while Johnson had a pair of birdies, including one on her last hole, the par-5 18th.

Sisler was five over on her front nine but used two birdies to play her back nine just three over.

UC Davis won its first tournament since 2007 and capped a fall season which included two top-four finishes, experience which paid off on Wednesday.

"I believed all fall we were a top-25 team," said Walker. "I told the team (before the round) we've been here before. We have to take what we've learned and apply it."

USC's Lizette Salas finished at 8-under to win medalist honors by five shots.

The Aggies will be off until competing in the Long Beach State Invitational in February.
