UC Davis To Host UC Santa Cruz In Home Opener

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts UC Santa Cruz in its home opener. The Aggies take on the Banana Slugs at The Pavilion with a tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. The game can be heard on KFSG 1690-AM as well as www.ucdavisaggies.com. UC Davis enters the game 1-2 while UC Santa Cruz will be playing its season opener.

UC Davis is coming off a 99-79 victory over Winston-Salem State Sunday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. The game was part of the Basketball Traveler's Tip-Off Tournament. The Aggies were led by Joe Harden's 26 points and 12 rebounds in the win over WSSU. Harden averaged 17.3 points for the three games over the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He was then named Co-Big West Conference Player of the Week. Fellow junior Mark Payne also averaged 17.3 points during the tournament. Payne finished with 21 on Sunday.

UC Santa Cruz is coming off an 11-15 campaign in 2008-09. The Aggies and Banana Slugs last met on the same date in the 2007-08 season as part of the Legends Classic. UC Davis posted a 71-49 victory on that night at The Pavilion as Payne led all scorers with 14 points.

Wednesday's game is the first of two straight for the Aggies at home. UC Davis will host North Dakota State Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.
