UC Davis Adds Transfer From Cal

Oct. 1, 2009

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball program has added Eddie Miller to its roster, announced head coach Gary Stewart. Miller is a transfer who played his first two collegiate seasons at California. He will redshirt and practice with the team in 2009-10 and will be eligible to compete beginning in 2010-11.

"Eddie is a welcomed addition to our basketball program. We are very familiar with Eddie as a person, student and athlete, having recruited him when he attended Antioch High School," said Stewart. "After speaking with the entire Cal coaching staff, I came away convinced he was the type of student-athlete who could have a significant impact on our program."

Miller appeared in a total of 15 games as a freshman and sophomore at Cal. Last year, he averaged 2.4 points with more than half of his scoring coming from beyond the arc. Prior to that, Miller was named the Bay Valley Athletic league most valuable player as a senior while garnering first-team All-BVAL honors his final two seasons. He also averaged a double-double as a junior and senior and was a four-time Scholar-Athlete.

"Cal has one of the best backcourts in the country, which made it difficult for him to break into their rotation," said Stewart. "However, the experience gained by playing daily against high caliber competition has greatly aided in his development. Eddie possesses innate scoring ability and can stretch defenses by making threes or finish with strength at the rim. He is also an excellent competitor."

UC Davis will begin its regular season Nov. 13 when it travels to Eugene. Ore., for the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off. Opponents that weekend include Colorado State, host Oregon and Winston-Salem State.
